Solve $x - y = 2$ and $x - 2 y = 3$

Solution

$x - y = 2$
$x - 2 y = 3$
Subtracting both the eqautions, we get
$x - 2 y - x + y = 3 - 2 = 1$
$\Rightarrow - y = 1$ or $y = - 1$
Substitute $y = - 1$ in $x - y = 2$ we get
$x - (- 1) = 2$
$\Rightarrow x + 1 = 2$
$\Rightarrow x = 2 - 1 = 1$
$∴ x = 1, y = - 1$
