Solution

Small leaves or spines are adaptions of desert plants to withstand the dry conditions in the desert. The surface of the lamina of such leaves has reduced. This helps to reduce water loss by transpiration through the leaves. Thus small leaves and spines are beneficial to desert plants to survive.
