Solution
-Ans: Electrolytic decomposition: Decomposition of any molecule by using electricity is termed electrolytic decomposition.
Uses: There are certain compounds that dissociate at higher temperatures for such molecules by using electricity will dissociate easily.
Example: NaCl molecule will dissociate at higher temperatures, but on electrolysis, it will decompose easily. Using electricity non-spontaneous reactions can also take place easily.
Example: Water cannot be dissociated easily by supplying but when electricity it can be dissociated into its elements.
2H2OElectricity−−−−−−−−→2H2+O2
2NaClelectricity−−−−−−−→2NaOH+H2+Cl2
This process is named as Chlor alkali process as well.
