Some parts of India face drought whereas some other parts experience floods at the same time. Why does this happen?
Uneven distribution of rain.
The distribution of rainfall is uneven in India due to the following reasons:
Latitudinal extent: The tropical and coastal regions and plains receive more rainfall than the plateau and desert regions in the interior.
Relief and topography: The windward side of mountains and hills receive more rainfall than leeward side.
The vagaries of the monsoon: The unpredictability of the monsoon along with phenomena like monsoon troughs and depressions lead to uneven distribution of rainfall.
