The French Revolution was a long and complicated chain of events, with many different phases.
It started with the fall of the Old Regime in 1789 CE. This started the First French Revolution, which lasted from 1789-1792 CE.
This was followed by the Second French Revolution and the Reign of Terror. It lasted from till 1794 CE.
From 1794-1799 CE, the Directory governed the French population.
In 1799 CE, Napoleon Bonaparte overthrew the Directory. This ushered in the Napoleonic Era.
