In 1975, after months of protest, the American government was forced to end the war. Instead of learning a lesson in peace, many countries started to think about how to stop other countries from attacking them. They saw the solution in producing more nuclear weapons. Nations were now in an arms race, a race to have more weapons. The two superpowers, USA and USSR developed 1000s of nuclear weapons. Governments gave taxpayers’ money in setting up military-industrial complexes. Eventually, thousands of intellectuals and scientists across the world started spreading the awareness to abolish all nuclear weapons. Massive protests took place against the defence policies of the government and governments finally felt the pressure to start negotiations for peace with other countries.
