Solution

During the blood coagulation, disintegration of the injured cells and platelets release thromboplastin, also called thrombokinase. It catalyses the conversion of prothrombin to active thrombin in the presence of calcium ions. Thrombin converts the soluble fibrinogen protein to insoluble fibrin. Fibrin creates a mesh and traps RBC in it, forming a clot or thrombus.
