Sound is produced when an object is made to vibrate. These vibrations causes the particles of the medium to vibrate back and forth to develop pressure waves. These pressure waves are carried to our ears and then we can hear the sound. Sound energy travels out like waves in all directions. Sound needs a medium to travel through, such as air, water, wood, and even metal.
For example, when a person hits the drum with a stick, the kinetic energy of the stick is transferred to the drum and the drum produces sound. Thus, there is a conversion of kinetic energy to sound energy. So, this proves that sound has energy. Since we can hear the sound, sound energy is the mechanical form of energy.
