Question

Sound tends to travel faster at higher temperature of the medium.

Open in App
Solution

Speed of sound in a medium is given by ,
v=K/ρ ,
where K= elasticity of medium ,
ρ= density of medium ,

therefore ,
or v1/ρ ,
as speed of sound is inversely proportional to square root of density of medium , at higher temperature density of the medium decreases hence speed of sound increases therefore sound travels faster at higher temperature of the medium .
