2. Black soil: It is made of volcanic rocks and lava-flow. It is found in the states of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. It is good for growing cotton and is rich in minerals like Lime, Iron, Magnesium and also Potash.
3. Red Soil: Such soil is red of yellow in colour and is found in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and parts of Orissa. Such soil is not very fertile and is used to grow coarse grains like kowar, bajra and ragi.
4. Laterite soil: They are found in hilltops in the states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Orissa and Assam.
5. Mountain soil: Such soils are found in the Himalayan and Terai region. They are formed as a result of the accumulation of organic matter derived from forest growth. Tea is grown in such soil.
6. Desert soil: It is found in the deserts of Rajasthan. The soil has high soil content and is very dry. Hardly anything grows in such soil.
