Define a patriarchal system. How has it affected the status of women in India? Explain with examples

A patriarchal system is a system that is dominated by men. Men hold the main economic and social power in such a system and are the key decision makers in economic, social and political matters.
Such a system is not fair to women as they are often discriminated against. They do not have any authority and power in such a system. It has affected the status of Women in India by degrading them as second class citizens. They are often trapped in stereotypes that the patriarchal system crafts.
E.g. A woman is not paid Equally in many spheres of corporate jobs. A woman's wishes are not given equal due respect.
