  1. Sponges are multicellular organisms with a division of labour.
  2. Tissue-level of organization is not seen in organisms belonging to the phylum Porifera.
  3. These animals bear minute pores on the surface of the body known as Ostia.
  4. Water enters the body of the sponges through these pores and is through a large pore known as the osculum.
  5. This system is known as the canal system.
  6. As these organisms bear minute pores on the body, hence they are known as pore bearers.
