Question

Standard equation & general equation of a circle are same or different?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

The standard equation of circle with centre (h,k) with radius r is given by (x – h)2 + (y – k)2 = r2.
The general equation of circle is given by x2 + y2 + 2gx +2fy + c = 0. The centre of the circle is (-g, -f) and the radius is √(g2 + f2 - c).
Both the equation can be converted into one another form so we can say that both are same.
