Starting from rest, Deepak paddles his bicycle to attain a velocity of 6 m/s in 30 seconds then he applies brakes so that the velocity of the bicycle comes down to 4 m/s in the next 5 seconds. Calculate the acceleration of the bicycle in both the cases. [2 MARKS]
Case 1 : 1 Mark
Case 2 : 1 Mark
Case I : Initial velocity, u=0, final velocity, v=6m/s, time, t=30s
Using the equation v=u+at,
6=0+30t
a=0.2 m/s2
Case II : u=6 m/s, v=4 m/s, t=5 s then
4=6+5a
a=–0.4 m/s2
which is a retardation.
