State and explain Gay Lussac's law.


Solution

Gay-Lussac's law states that the pressure of a gas is directly proportional to the absolute temperature provided mass & volume of gas is constant.

At constant volume, the pressure of the gas increases with increase in temperature and decreases with a decrease in temperature which is expressed as:

    $$P \quad \alpha \quad T$$ -------- (at constant volume & mass)
