State any four differences between photosynthesis and respiration.
Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is the process of the production of glucose in the presence of carbon dioxide and water.
Respiration
Respiration is the process of production of carbon dioxide and water due to the breaking down of carbohydrates.
Photosynthesis | Respiration |
1. Photosynthesis is an anabolic process where a new molecule (glucose) is produced. | 1. Respiration is a catabolic process in which the molecule (glucose) is broken down. |
2. Photosynthesis occurs in the presence of chlorophyll like in plants and some algae. | 2. Respiration occurs in the cells of all living organisms. |
3. Photosynthesis occurs in the chloroplast. | 3. Respiration mainly takes place inside the mitochondria. |
4. It takes up the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and produces oxygen. | 4. Oxygen is used in this process to produce carbon dioxide. |
