Solution
Some uses of ultrasonic vibrations are:
The ultrasonic vibrations are used for homogenizing milk. Milk is agitated with ultrasonic vibrators so that the larger fat particles break to form smaller particles. On the same principle, ultrasonic vibrations are used for homogenizing cosmetics.
They are used for making dishwashing machines. In these machines, water and detergent are vibrated with ultrasonic vibrators. The vibrating particles of the dissolved detergent rub against the plates and clean them.
The ultrasound is capable of mixing immiscible liquids, such as water and oil, into homogeneous, stable substances. This property of ultrasound is used in the manufacture of photographic films.
They are used for dissipating fogs on the runways at airports. An intense beam of ultrasound produces heat in the liquid droplets suspended in the air. The liquid particles join to form lumps and settle down.
Other than all this it is used for medical purposes, sonar, in echolocation by animals, etc.
