State four properties of a solid.
(i) Solids have definite shape and volume- Because the particles of solids are tightly packed and have very strong intermolecular forces of attraction.
(ii) Solids are rigid because of their very closely packed structure and strong molecular forces of attractions
(iii) Solids are incompressible- because of the closely packed arrangement of molecules and negligible intermolecular spaces between the particles.
(iv) Solids have high melting points- Because the intermolecular forces are very strong as the particles are tightly packed so solid requires a large amount of heat to break the bonds between molecules, which results in a very high melting point.
