Question

State Heisenberg's uncertainty principle.

Open in App
Solution

Heisenberg's uncertainty principle

  1. This principle is based on the wave-particle duality of matter.
  2. It states that it is impossible to measure or calculate exactly both the position and momentum of an object.
  3. If x is the error in position measurement and p is the error in the measurement of momentum, then x×ph4π
  4. The more precise our measurement of momentum is, the less accurate will our momentum measurement and vice-versa.

Therefore, Heisenberg's uncertainty principle states that it is impossible to determine simultaneously the position and momentum of an object.
