Question

State how the velocity-time graph can be used to find the displacement of the body in a given time.

Open in App
Solution

Displacement from velocity-time graph
  • Displacement is the area enclosed between velocity-time graph and time axis.
  • The area enclosed above the time axis represents positive displacement and the area enclosed below it is negative displacement.
  • Total displacement is obtained by adding the areas numerically with proper sign.
  • Here total displacement (between t= 0 s and t= 20 s) = 30-10 = 20 m.
