Question

State, in which of the following examples i.e. a piece of wood, water and light gas is the

i) Interparticle space maximum.

ii) Interparticle attraction maximum.

iii) Energy posses by particles of matter, very large.

Solution

i) Interparticle space is maximum in light gases due to the weak force of attraction between the particles.

ii) Interparticle force of attraction is maximum in a piece of wood. because wood is solid and in solids particles are tightly compact with each other, therefore the interparticle force of attraction is maximum.

iii) A light gas has the highest kinetic energy due to the weak force of attraction between the particles, therefore particles can move and can gain energy.
