Question

State law of resistance "in series" and "in parallel". How will you connect various resistances to increase and decrease it?

Open in App
Solution

The law of resistance in parallel:

The reciprocal of the combined resistance of a number of resistances connected in parallel is equal to the sum of the reciprocals of all the individual resistances, according to the law of resistance combination in parallel.

The law of resistance in series:

The combined resistance of any number of resistances connected in series is equal to the sum of the individual resistances, according to the law of series resistance combination.

How will you connect various resistances to increase and decrease them:

  1. The current in a series combination must pass through all of the resistors connected. There are no alternatives for the current. As a result, resistance rises.
  2. In the case of a parallel combination, the current has the option of passing through which resistor. Normally, in a parallel combination, the majority of the current flows through resistors with low resistivity.
  3. As a result, the resistance in parallel combinations is low. To summarise, the current is bound to pass through every resistor in series, but the current is divided in parallel.
