Question

State Lenz's Law.
A metallic rod held horizontally along east-west direction, is allowed to fall under gravity. Will there be an e.m.f. induced at its ends? Justify your answer.

Lenz's Law:- The direction of induced emf will be such as to oppose the cause producing it. We know that earth is also magnetic where the magnetic field is from North to the south. Therefore when the conductor fails under gravity it acquires velocity and hence induced an e.m.f.
