Question

State Newton's universal law of gravitation. Why is it called universal?

Open in App
Solution

Newton's universal law of Gravitation

  1. The law states that every particle in the universe attracts every other particle with a force which is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.
  2. Mathematically it is represented as

F=Gm1m2R2

F⇢ force due to gravity

G⇢ universal gravitational constant G=6.67×10-11Nm2kg2

m1⇢ mass of body 1

m2⇢ mass of body 2

Universal Law:

The above law is also known as universal law because it is applicable for all masses (like sun, moon, earth or a car) at all distances, independent of the medium in which they are present.
