When a few drops of dilute. \(HCl\) is added to the \(AgNO_{3}\) solution, and a curdy white precipitate of silver chloride is formed.
The precipitate dissolves when an ammonium hydroxide solution is added to it.
The reaction involved is:
\(AgNO_{3} + HCl \rightarrow AgCl \downarrow + HNO_{3}\)
\(AgCl + 2NH_{4}OH \rightarrow Ag\left[NH_{3}\right]_{2}^{+} Cl^{-} +2H_{2}O\)
