Zinc oxide is formed with the liberation of oxygen and nitrogen dioxide gas. Oxygen is a colourless odourless gas which is neutral to litmus whereas nitrogen dioxide is a brown coloured gas.It has irritating pungent odour. It turns moist blue litmus red.
