1. When Iron (II) sulphide or Ferric sulphide (FeS) is treated with dilute hydrochloric acid (HCl), it forms Ferric Chloride (FeCl2) with the release of the gas Hydrogen sulphide (H2S).
FeS (s)+2HCl (l)ā†’FeCl2(s)+H2S (g)ā†‘
Observation:
1. The odour of Hydrogen sulphide gas that is evolved has a rotten egg smell.
