Right-hand Screw Rule can be used to determine the direction based on the sense of rotational direction.

It explains that if the right-hand hold a screwdriver and rotated in a sense such that the direction of advancement of the screwdriver gives the direction of the rotation.

The axis is grasped in the right hand, the fingers curl round in the direction of positive rotation and the thumb is orientated in the positive direction.
