Solution
Some of the physical properties of an ionic compounds are:
Physical state: Ionic compounds are solids and relatively hard because of the strong force of attraction between the positive and negative ions.
Solubility: Ionic compounds are generally soluble in polar solvents.
Melting and boiling point: Ionic compounds have high melting and boliling points, due to the strong electrostatic force of attraction between the oppositely charged ions. Therefore, large amount of energy is needed to weaken the intermolecular forces of attraction and change the physical state.
Conduction of electricity: Ionic compounds do not conduct electricity in solid state as the movement of ions is not possible due to the rigid structure. But ionic compounds conduct electricity in molten state and aqueous form as the ions become free to move and therefore conduct electricity.
