Solution

(a) When implantation has occurred in the uterus of the mother, the inner lining of the uterus thickens and is richly supplied with the blood vessels to provide nourishment to the growing embryo.

(b) When the fertilization of the egg does not take place the thick uterine wall sheds off. Rupturing blood vessels of the uterus and blood come out in the form of menstrual fluid. This is called menstruation.
