State the characteristics of an image and draw a neat diagram when an object is between optical centre and principle focus of a convex lens.

When the object is placed between the principal focus and optical centre of a convex lens, it forms a virtual, erect and magnified image.

  • The ray parallel to the principal axis passes through the focus after refraction from the lens.
  • The ray passing through the optical centre emerges undeviated.
  • On extending these 2 rays, they appear to diverge such that a virtual, erect and magnified image AB is formed on the same side of the lens.
