State the characteristics required in a material to be used as on effective fuse wire.

  1. The material generally used for fuse wire is an alloy of lead and tin.
  2. Electric fuse wire is a wire which allows only up to a limit of current through it.
  3. If a particular amount of value of current is exceeded then it melts down.
  4. So for achieving the melting property the fuse wire is made up of an alloy made of tin 63 % & lead 37 %.
  5. The material to be used as a fuse wire should have a low melting point and high resistivity.

Hence, the characteristics required in a material to be used as an effective fuse wire are low melting point and high resistivity.
