  1. An object floats on the surface of a liquid when the weight of the object is less than the weight of the liquid displaced by the object.
  2. According to Archimedes' principle, the apparent loss of weight of a body fully or partially immersed in a liquid is equal to the weight of the liquid displaced by the body.
