Question

State the condition when a body is in dynamic equilibrium. Give one example of dynamic equilibrium.

Open in App
Solution

To define dynamic equilibrium:

A body is said to be in dynamic equilibrium when it remains in the same state of motion either translational or rotational under the influence of the forces that are applied to it.

For example:

A raindrop that reaches the earth with a constant velocity is in dynamic equilibrium.

Conditions for dynamic equilibrium:

  • The resultant of all forces that are acting on the body should be zero.
  • The resultant of the moment of force of the rotational force acting on the rigid body around the turning point on the axis of rotation should be zero.
