Question

State the conditions under which Ohm's law is not obeyed in a conductor.

Open in App
Solution

The conditions under which Ohm's law is not obeyed in a conductor are:

  1. According to Ohm's law, the relationship between potential difference V and current I is V=IR, where R is resistance.
  2. When the temperature of the conductor changes, the resistance changes. In this condition, the conductor does not obey Ohm's law.
  3. If the physical conditions like pressure change then also the conductor does not obey Ohm's law.
  4. The resistance of a conductor is directly proportional to the length of the conductor. If the length changes, resistance also changes. In this situation, Ohm's law is not obeyed by a conductor.
