State the correct sequence (1-7) of colours in the spectrum of white light formed by the prisms A and B.​ [3 marks]

  • A prism splits white light into seven colours i.e. violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. A spectrum is obtained undergoing maximum deviation with violet colour and minimum deviation with red colour. [1 mark]
  • When the prism is inverted, a spectrum is obtained with red colour undergoing maximum deviation and violet colour undergoing minimum deviation. [1 mark]
