Solution

(a) The terms decay and putrefaction are defined differently depending on the source of the decomposed organic matter as both refer to the breakdown of organic matter.

  1. Putrefaction: It is the Start of body decomposition and skin discolouration.
  2. Decomposition: In decomposition, the body decomposes naturally.

Sl. No.

Decay

Putrification

1

Bacterial breakdown of organic matter whole. The bacterial breakdown of organic matter is incomplete.

2

It does not emit a foul odour. It emits a foul odour.

3

The process is critical for recycling finite matter.

Because it takes up physical space in the biome.

It can also be defined as the decomposition of proteins.

It leads to the breakdown of tissue cohesion.

(b)

  1. Pasteurisation: It is the process of heating milk to a high temperature and then cooling it to a much lower temperature.
  2. Sterilisation: It is the process of removing microbes that could cause infection from any object.

Sl. No

Pasteurization

Sterilization

1The required temperature is -60 degrees Celsius.-110 degrees Celsius is the required temperature.
2It has no effect on spores.Spores can be killed.
3Partially sterilisedTotal sterilisation
4Milk sterilisation, for example. For example, canned food sterilisation.
