  1. Chemical energy is converted into heat energy and light energy by burning coal.
  2. According to the law of conservation of energy, energy can neither be created nor destroyed, it can be changed from one form to another.
  3. So when work is done there is a change in energy occurs.
  4. Chemical energy is the energy stored in the bonds of a chemical substance.
  5. Hence, in burning coal the stored chemical energy is converted to heat energy and light energy when it burns.
