state the equation of the line which has the y-intercept -5 and is equally inclined to the axes.

Open in App
Solution

For a line to be equally inclined on the axes angles between the line and both the x and y axis should be equal. Hence, we have:

Slope (m) = tan (45o) = 1

So, equation of the line will be:

y = mx + c , where c is the y-intercept.

or, y = 1 × x + (-5)

or, y = x - 5
