Cowper’s gland:

  1. The Cowper’s gland also referred to as the Bulbourethral glands are the accessory glands that are not directly involved in the process of production of the sperm cells.
  2. They are the paired glands located below the prostate gland and are attached to the part of the urethra that is membranous in nature.
  3. They are connected to the urethra through separate ducts.

Function:

  1. The Cowper’s glands produce an alkaline secretion containing mucus that lubricates the urethra of the penis.
  2. It also neutralizes the acidic pH prevalent in the urethral environment of both males and females.
