State the function of fallopian tube.

Open in App
Solution

The fallopian tubes or uterine tubes are uterine appendages which enable the passage of egg cells from the ovaries to the uterus. In the presence of sperm and fertilization, the uterine tubes transport the fertilized egg to the uterus for implantation. The ultrastructure of the uterine tubes facilitates the movement of the female gamete. The inner mucosa is lined with ciliated columnar epithelial cells and peg cells which pass the ovum towards the uterus and supply it with nutrients. Smooth muscle layer contracts to assist with the transportation of the ova and sperm.
