(i) Switch or Key-
A switch or key is an electrical device that is used to make or break a circuit.
When the switch is turned on, the current can flow through that branch of the circuit.
Whereas, in the off position, the circuit is broken at that point and no current flows.
The following diagrams symbolically represent the off and on positions of a switch or key.
(ii) Cell- A cell or battery is generally used as a source of electricity. It has two terminals, namely, positive and negative, which are represented by two vertical lines of unequal lengths. The positive terminal is represented by a long vertical line and the negative terminal is represented by a short vertical line as shown in the following diagram.
