(e) Hypothalamus

Hypothalamus:

  1. It is a part of the diencephalon along with the thalamus.
  2. It occupies the base of the brain and exhibits both nervous and endocrine functions.

Function:

  1. Controls involuntary functions
  2. The thermostat of the body (regulate body temperature)
  3. It is a junction between the neural and endocrine system
  4. Regulates sexual desire, expression of emotion, pleasure, excitement, fear
  5. Also, release hormones that stimulate the pituitary gland.

Hence, the major function of the hypothalamus is it acts as the homeostatic center of the body regulating body temperature, thirst, appetite, etc.
