Placenta:

  1. The embryo is attached to the uterus by means of a soft red tissue called the placenta.
  2. It is a tissue composed of chorionic villi of foetus and endometrium of mother's uterus.
  3. Placenta is involved in the exchange of substances like oxygen, food, excretory products, etc. across the foetal blood and the mother's blood.
