Solution

In the human body

  • It plays an important role in converting food to energy called metabolism.
  • Since water diffuses easily through the cell, it is capable of transporting chemicals to and from the cell.
  • It helps to maintain our body temperature by means of sweating.

To plants

  • It helps in seed germination (since it hydrates and expands the cells of the seed, increasing its respiration and metabolic rate)
  • It helps in the process of photosynthesis by providing essential hydrogen to plants, which is necessary for glucose formation.
  • Water in soil (containing essential minerals for the growth of plants) enters through the root of plants and reaches to various parts of the plants.

In industry

  • It is used in preparing chemicals.
  • Water does not heat quickly as compared to other liquids, thus used as a coolant in various fields.
  • It is also used in the production of hydroelectricity.

In agriculture

  • Water plays an important role in the growth of crops in agriculture
  • Around 70% freshwater goes to agriculture
  • It is also used to dissolve fertilizers and pesticides so that it can easily transport to various parts of the plant
