Solution

Law of reciprocal proportion

  • The law state that when two elements combine separately with a definite mass of another element, the ratio of the mass of two combining elements is an integral multiple of the ratio in which they combine with each other.
  • Example - In CH412 g of carbon combines with 4 g of hydrogen.

Therefore the ratio by mass of carbon to hydrogen is =12:4 = 3:1
