Centromere:

  1. The narrow lightly stained part of the chromosome where the two chromatids are attached is called the centromere.
  2. There is a proteinaceous covering over the free - surface of a centromere called the kinetochore.
  3. The centromere is generally located at the centre of the chromosome but sometimes it can also be towards the end of the chromosome.
