State the main function of corpus luteum.

Corpus luteum is produced by ruptured Graafian follicle after ovulation. It serves to secrete estrogen and progesterone during first four months of pregnancy. This keeps the level of gonadotropin lowered and thereby help in maintenance of uterine wall for continuation of pregnancy.
