State the nature of image formed by a plane mirror when a man is standing in front of it. Also name the alphabets whose image will appear exactly same.

  • The image formed by a plane mirror is virtual, erect and of the same size.

  • The image is laterally inverted and it means that the left of the object appears on the right side in the mirror.

  • Now, alphabets that are symmetrical about a vertical line will have no effect of lateral inversion, for example the letter ‘W’ would appear ‘W’ in the mirror. But remember lateral inversion has happened and the letter is symmetrical and hence appears as it is.

  • Similarly, letters like A, H, I, M, O, T, U, V, W, X and Y would appear as it is.
