1. Keep the thermometer in an upright position.
2. Make sure that the bulb of the thermometer does not touch the bottom or sides of the container ( where the substance is placed ).
3. Read the temperature of the object when the thermometer is in the substance.
4. Do not move the thermometer while measuring the temperature of the substance.
   Keep your hand steady.
5. A Laboratory thermometer should not be used to measure body temperature.
